JANESVILLE — The Assembly Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on S. Wright Road in Janesville has become a focal point for spiritual enrichment as the annual convention, themed “Declare the Good News!”, unfolds. Families like the Sparesus from Waukegan, IL, spanning over 70 miles to attend, are among the 1,000 weekly attendees, aiming for a total of 8,700 by August 11.
Centered on the life of Jesus Christ and the uplifting messages of the Bible, this year’s event has featured highlights such as a compelling two-part video drama depicting Jesus’s early life. Sessions have also delved into pertinent topics like overcoming fear in the face of adversity, emphasizing the enduring positivity found in biblical teachings.
Brian Sparesus, whose roots in the faith stretch back to childhood visits from nearby Kenosha, describes the convention as a nostalgic journey, now shared with his wife Jenny and their four children. Jenny, drawn to the faith through personal relationships and Bible study, echoes the sentiment, emphasizing the convention’s practical guidance for daily challenges.
“This deep dive into Jesus’ life has been really beneficial,” she remarked, underscoring its personal impact.
Open to all without charge or collection, the convention fosters a sense of community and shared purpose. For Josh Mueller of Janesville, the gathering isn’t just an annual ritual but a reaffirmation of faith and camaraderie.
“The information is so encouraging,” Mueller shared, noting how the convention underscores biblical prophecies unfolding in today’s world, offering reassurance and direction.
Beyond the sessions, the atmosphere buzzes with reunion and fellowship, a stark contrast to pandemic-induced isolation in recent years.
Looking ahead, the Assembly Hall will continue to host regular gatherings, ensuring continuity beyond the convention’s conclusion in August.
