AZLE — Central Park in Azle transformed into a lively hub of activities on Saturday, June 15, as Revive United Methodist Church hosted a vibrant Vacation Bible School. The event, organized by youth pastor Kelsi Bernsen and co-pastors Jenn and Todd Pick, saw about 30 volunteers coming together to provide a day of fun and faith for local children.
Revive UMC, which frequently operates from Cross Timbers Elementary and Azle Christian Church, aimed to extend its outreach by hosting the event in a public space. Speaking with the Tri-County Reporter, Rev. Jenn Pick highlighted the church’s mission to make faith accessible to everyone.
“We believe that church can happen anywhere,” said Jenn Pick. “This park, with its beautiful surroundings and sunny skies, is God’s creation. Being here allows us to be a visible presence and ensure that everyone feels welcome, especially those who might find a traditional church setting intimidating.”
The event featured a range of activities including water gun fights, free tacos, a Kona Ice truck, and various games. These attractions not only entertained children from the church but also drew in curious visitors from the nearby Splash Pad and other park areas. As the day progressed, youth leaders conducted lessons at “Camp Firelight,” sharing stories from Genesis and Acts, with a central message from Psalm 56 about trusting God in times of fear.
Jenn Pick reiterated the church’s inclusive philosophy, saying, “We love people, and all are welcome at Revive. We want to ensure everyone knows who we are and who God is in their lives. This event is low pressure; anyone can come and see what we’re about. Our goal is to love our community because we love Azle.”
Looking ahead, Revive UMC plans to participate in the July 4 Follow the Flag event, where they will host a temporary tattoo and glow jewelry table. Additionally, the church will hold a back-to-school bash on Sunday, August 11, at 11 a.m. at Cross Timbers Elementary, featuring an obstacle course and lunch.
