At this point, the Moabites, led by King Balak, became fearful of the Israelites’ presence. This fear led to the events that followed in Numbers 22, where Balak summoned Balaam, a prophet, to curse Israel.

Numbers 22:1 Meaning
1. The Israelites’ Location
The verse tells us that the Israelites had camped in the plains of Moab, near the Jordan River, opposite Jericho. This was a significant place because it was the last major stop before entering the Promised Land. Their journey, which had started in Egypt, was now reaching its fulfillment.

The Moabites were afraid of Israel, even though Israel had no intention of harming them. This teaches us that when God is with us, even our presence can cause fear in those who oppose His will. Sometimes, people may misunderstand or oppose us because of our faith, but we should continue to trust in God.

The Israelites were about to face their biggest challenge yet—conquering the land of Canaan. This reminds us that before we receive God’s blessings, we often have to go through challenges. Just as the Israelites had to prepare to cross the Jordan and face Jericho, we must prepare ourselves spiritually for the next steps in our lives.
4. Recognizing God’s Presence
God was with the Israelites every step of the way. Even though they were in a foreign land, they were not alone. This is a great reminder for us today that God is always with us, no matter where we are.
