Genesis Chapter 2

Genesis Chapter 2 Summary

Genesis Chapter 2 presents a more focused account of the creation of humanity and the Garden of Eden. It begins with the completion of the creation of the heavens and the earth on the seventh day, when God rested from His work, establishing the Sabbath as a day of rest and sanctification. The chapter then recounts the formation of man from the dust of the ground and God’s breath giving him life.

God places Adam in the Garden of Eden, a lush paradise with a variety of trees, including the Tree of Life and the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. God commands Adam to tend and keep the garden, providing for his needs. Recognizing Adam’s loneliness, God creates Eve from one of Adam’s ribs to be his companion, establishing the institution of marriage as a union between man and woman.
