HARRISONBURG, VA — A unique Mobile Bible Exhibit has made its way to Harrisonburg, stationed outside the Slavic Christian Church on Erickson Ave., overlooking Rockingham County. Open to the public daily from 4 to 8 p.m. until Sunday, the exhibit showcases a compelling journey through the history and significance of the Bible.
Yelena Harunovich, speaking about the exhibit, described it as the culmination of a four-year project now marking its one-year anniversary. Housed within a large rig, visitors are invited to explore various displays, including a replica of the Gutenberg printing press, ancient Torah scrolls, and a meticulously recreated corner resembling the cave where the Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered.
According to Max Leonov, one of the tour guides, the exhibit’s primary focus is tracing the historical path of the Bible from Mount Sinai to the present day. “We want to emphasize that the Bible is not merely a book,” Leonov remarked. “It serves as our compass to eternity and guides our relationship with Jesus Christ.”
Among the exhibit’s standout features is a poignant demonstration illustrating how Bibles were smuggled into non-believing countries like the Soviet Union and modern-day North Korea. Visitors can view propane containers with false bottoms used to conceal Bibles, ingeniously hidden even within car gas tanks.
Another intriguing highlight is a Bible with pages made of waterproof plastic, allowing them to float and remain undamaged even when submerged in water. This innovation played a crucial role in clandestinely disseminating the Bible across closed borders.
