Louisville Church Collaborates with Nonprofits to Host Inclusive Vacation Bible School

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Embracing the spirit of summer’s cherished tradition, vacation bible school, Burnett Avenue Baptist Church in Highview is paving the way for inclusivity among children.

From crafts to music and stories, the church’s week-long program, tailored for children with learning differences, is set to continue nightly until Friday, thanks to the dedication of approximately 50 volunteers.

The event, designed to foster a sense of community-wide inclusion and compassion, welcomed participation from families across Louisville.

Margaret Howard, representing the Bluegrass Center for Autism, highlighted the significance of such initiatives: “Any opportunity for children to engage in community events alongside their peers not only enhances socialization skills but also raises awareness within the broader community.”

In a collaborative effort aimed at expanding access, Burnett Avenue Baptist Church partnered with several nonprofit organizations including the Bluegrass Center for Autism, Families for Early Autism Treatment (FEAT), Dreams with Wings, and AMPED Louisville.

With aspirations to establish this as an annual fixture, the organizers are committed to ensuring that all children have the opportunity to partake in and enjoy this summer tradition.
