Amid escalating tensions along Israel’s northern border, fueled by increased missile attacks from Lebanon by the Iran-backed Hezbollah group, concerns about broader conflict loom large. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have noted Hezbollah’s actions as pushing the region towards a potential escalation.
In response to these challenges, Victor Kalisher, director of The Bible Society in Israel, shared how their organization is actively supporting displaced Israelis and providing encouragement to Christians during this tumultuous period. Kalisher emphasized the unique role of The Bible Society in providing spiritual support, stating, “At this time of conflict, The Bible Society has expanded its efforts into humanitarian aid.”
He continued, highlighting the distinctiveness of their ministry in the current context, “We recognize that The Bible Society stands virtually alone in focusing on the message of the Bible at this critical juncture. Many people are seeking encouragement and are more receptive than ever before.”
The Bible Society in Israel offers a variety of biblical resources in modern Hebrew through their website and engages actively on social media by sharing Scripture. Kalisher further detailed their outreach efforts, stating, “We have also deployed a mobile unit filled with Scriptures. We travel extensively across the region, engaging people in conversations about faith. For those interested, we provide Scriptures ranging from the New Testament to the full Bible, the Book of Psalms, and other outreach materials.”
He stressed the importance of spiritual support during times of crisis, describing it as essential for real encouragement, rooted in understanding God’s love through Christ.
As the situation unfolds, prayers are requested for Israelis to experience God’s peace and for the Gospel to advance through the efforts of The Bible Society. Additionally, prayers are extended for Hezbollah fighters to encounter the transformative power of Jesus Christ.
In a time marked by uncertainty and heightened tensions, The Bible Society remains steadfast in its mission to bring spiritual comfort and hope to the people of Israel.
