The Uncleanness of Men

1. The LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying,

2. “Speak to the Israelites and tell them, ‘When any man has a discharge from his body, his discharge is unclean.

3. Whether his body secretes the discharge or retains it, he is unclean; all the days he has the discharge he will be unclean.

4. Any bed the man with the discharge lies on will be unclean, and anything he sits on will be unclean.

5. Whoever touches his bed is to wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will be unclean until evening.

6. Whoever sits on anything the man with the discharge sat on is to wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will be unclean until evening.

7. The one who touches the body of the man with the discharge is to wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will be unclean until evening.

8. If the man with the discharge spits on one who is clean, that person is to wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will be unclean until evening.

9. Any saddle the man with the discharge rides on will be unclean.

10. Whoever touches anything that was under him will be unclean until evening; whoever carries such things is to wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will be unclean until evening.

11. Anyone the man with the discharge touches without rinsing his hands with water is to wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will be unclean until evening.

12. Any clay pot the man with the discharge touches must be broken, while any wooden utensil is to be rinsed with water.

The Cleansing of Men

13. When the man with the discharge has been healed of it, he is to count off seven days for his purification. He must wash his clothes and bathe his body in fresh water, and he will be clean.

14. On the eighth day he must take two turtledoves or two young pigeons and come before the LORD to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting and give them to the priest.

15. The priest shall offer them, one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering, to make atonement for him because of his discharge before the LORD.

16. When a man has an emission of semen, he is to bathe his whole body with water, and he will be unclean until evening.

17. Any clothing or leather on which there is an emission of semen must be washed with water, and it will be unclean until evening.

18. When a man lies with a woman and there is an emission of semen, both must bathe with water, and they will be unclean until evening.

The Uncleanness of Women

19. Whenever a woman has her menstrual period, she will be unclean for seven days, and anyone who touches her will be unclean until evening.

20. Anything she lies on during her menstruation will be unclean, and anything she sits on will be unclean.

21. Anyone who touches her bed must wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will be unclean until evening.

22. Anyone who touches any furniture she sits on must wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will be unclean until evening.

23. Whether it is the bed or anything she was sitting on when he touches it, he will be unclean until evening.

24. If a man sleeps with her and her menstrual flow touches him, he will be unclean for seven days, and any bed he lies on will be unclean.

25. When a woman has a discharge of blood for many days at a time other than her menstrual period, or if it lasts beyond her period, she will be unclean as she does in the days of her menstrual flow; any bed she lies on during that time will be unclean, as it is during her menstrual period.

26. Any person who touches her bed is to wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will be unclean until evening.

27. Anyone who touches these things will be unclean and must wash his clothes and bathe with water, and he will be unclean until evening.

The Cleansing of Women

28. When she is cleansed from her discharge, she must count off seven days, and after that she will be clean.

29. On the eighth day she must take two turtledoves or two young pigeons and bring them to the priest at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.

30. The priest is to offer one as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering. In this way he will make atonement for her before the LORD for her unclean discharge.

31. You must keep the Israelites separate from their uncleanness, so that they do not die in their uncleanness for defiling My dwelling place which is among them.’”

32. This is the law for the one with a discharge and for the man who has a seminal emission, making him unclean by it,

33. for the woman in her menstrual period, for anyone, man or woman, with a discharge, and for the man who lies with a woman who is unclean.
